So it is summer here in Australia, which often means rain in January, at the moment we have heavy downpours & it has been like that all week. Although the last couple of days it has been broken up with humid sunshine. Plus we are still in a hotspot for Covid in my region – so my holiday leave is at home. What is a girl to do ? Well craft of course.
I stuck to the orientation of the sketch & used a tiny scallop stamp for the scallops & replace the Flowers with these Penguins to create this cute Birthday Card.
I used Close To My Heart Party Time Paper for the main rectangle & the current Jan – Feb Mix-ins paper for the banner. I added stamped faux stitching to the banner to ground it a bit more as it is sits away from the edge. The Penguins are from the current Jan – Feb CTMH catalogue & are called Winter Penguins – I think they are so cute.
I hope you liked my idea & it has inspired you to try it out or even the sketch out for yourself.
If you are interested in any of the products I used & live in Australia you can order these on my website.

The Serenity paper collection is just a pretty colour combination of Blue Belle, Sapphire, French Vanilla, Toffee, Espresso. I have seen soooo many beautiful ideas created using this gorgeous paper collection
Ok just to change things up a bit I created a 8½” x 11″ Scrapbook Layout – Yes I do scrapbook sometimes & make layouts , I just lean towards cards as I can spend waayy too long on a single layout – I mean this one was started last month when I thought I should do a layout for the Stamp of the Month Blog Hope. I had the background ready & already stamped & coloured the flowers but I still had not worked out what else I was going to do by the time it was ready to get my blog post ready. And yes I can spend days on a card too. I just tend to be quicker & when I scrapbook I love layers & small details you don’t notice at first.
So I present With Love – I do have photos in mind – I need to print them – another reason why I tend to make cards!
Ok so this is pretty long so if you want to continue on the hop now do so by heading over to the next stop, Danielle Edwards – Scrappychicks or read on to find out more how I created this.
So while the Wood Grain is the main paper, I have used lots of scraps & just about both sides of each paper that comes in the the Serenity Paper collection.
For the Woodgrain I started by scraping on some white Gesso (I know CTMH doesn’t sell this but I was going to use water & I needed the colours to blend & to protect the paper) once that was dry I added some Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide ink sponged over the Gesso area. I then used some Green watercolour paint & splattered that over the Distress Oxide Ink. I added more splatters with the Clear Shimmer pen & finished off with some water splatters & let that all dry a hot mess – most of it would be covered but I knew enough would peek out from where I was going to add things. In some of the close up photos below you will see these splatters.
I stamped, coloured & fussy cut the roses from the Happiness Never Grows Old Dec Stamp of the month. I then fussy cut out a bunch of white flowers with Sapphire Blue Leaves from the floral pattern in the Serenity Paper collection & proceeded to stick them together. I fussy cut out the white wreaths on toffee pattern in the Serenity Paper collection & added them to the layout.
I stamped a saying with the Serenity Cardmaking kit to one of the wreaths with Toffee ink & added some silver thread & a wooden heart.
I then added some torn strips for my photos mats from various zip strips & patterns from the Serenity Paper collection.
I finished off the the flowers by adding Blue Belle Glitter Gems, Blue Belle Loose Sequins, some wooden hearts, White Flower Sequins & some bitty sparkles using liquid glass when needed – Ok I went a bit overboard with the embellishments, but I just love how it turned out.
What I Learned
Colour your flowers ti match the watercolour you done after it dries – it dried up lighter than when it went on. And well the blue in the Serenity Paper collection. do give them a purple hue but I am fine with it.
When adding adhesive to things, don’t go to the edge at first, this allows you to tuck things after without trying to tear up the page. You can glue up edges once you are happy.
Close Up of the background & flowers.
I hope you enjoyed what I created with the Serenity Collection, it was fun to create with.

Oh boy flowers – I am in trouble – love a pretty flower to make things with.
My first creation I wan t to share is this pretty pink & black Cascade card.
I used the Mixed in Papers to decorate it & used one of the sentiments to feature on the front. I stamped, coloured & fussy cut the flowers to decorate the card. This card fold flat to 4¼” x 5½” and is simple enough to put together but has a nice wow factor.
My next card features the Thanks Thin Cut Die.
I started off with stamping my roses first onto a stitched rectangle thin cut die & colouring them in with markers. I then masked them – the hardest part were the tiny leaves.
I sponged & stenciled a background in Distress Oxide ink. Once I was happy I positioned the Thanks Thin Cut onto the the card & cut it out. I cut some extra from scrap card so the it was raised ever so slightly more than the background & added a matching colour cardstock to my coloured roses of the thinner letters on top. The piece was matted & added to a pre-scored card.
I seriously could create soo much more with this stamp set, in fact I have about 3 unfinished pieces sitting on my craft desk, but I will leave it with these two ideas.
Remember you can get this exclusive D-size Happiness Never Grows Old – Dec Stamp of the Month stamp set (only available in Dec) can be yours for just $9 AUD/ $10 NZD, when you place an order of $80 AUD/$88 NZD or more! OR FREE for VIP Customers with qualifying order of $80 AUD/$88 NZD

I had lots of fun creating and I would love you to leave a comment before heading off to the next stop, Danielle Edwards – Scrappychicks enjoy the hop & thanks so much for taking the time to check out these ideas with this month’s feature
The next idea also has some embossing, but mixed with just plain inked images and the colours were all tied together to work with the gorgeous Serenity Paper Packet.
I started off stamping in Sapphire ink, then I choose another leaf set & did second generation of Sapphire ink. The next leaf I stamped in Toffee & then finally the last lot of leaves were gold embossed. I cut out some of the Sapphire Blue Splattered paper from the Serenity Paper Packet and matted with some Gold Foil Paper, the Merry was also cut from the Gold Foil Paper and added to the Pine, Spring Design from the Serenity Paper Packet. I just love how the stamped design tied together with the printed paper.
I started with drawing a line in pencil where I wanted the base of the animals to be, I worked out the height by seeing how tall the leaves in the Merry Borders Stamp + Thin Cuts set would be. I then stamped the Penguin & masked, stamped the Deer & masked again to stamp the Polar Bear. I coloured in the animals with markers. I then cut some wood grain paper & started to stamp some leaves in various green inks & added some red dots as berries & stuck the paper down. I cut another strip of wood grain paper as I knew I needed a ledge & I wanted to create a wooden sign for the Penguin to hold. This was a fun way change up using the Merry Borders Stamp + Thin Cuts set.
Back to a non-Christmas idea, this time playing with layered embossing & the Thanks Thin Cut.
I stamped the first layer of leaves in VersaMark™ Ink Pad on white cardstock & heat set and I then coloured with Peel Paint Distressed Distress Oxide™, I then stamped the next layer of leaves again with Versa Mark & once heat set I coloured over with Mowed Lawn Distress Oxide™ Ink Pad, I done another layer of leaves and added Peacock Feathers Distressed Oxide Ink. I added my final layer of leaves, but this time gold embossed the leaves. I then sprayed over the entire card front with Lime Gloss Spray which doesn’t rub off from the embossing once dry, so it tied in all the green layers. I then cut out the thanks thinner letters from this background. The Background thanks was cut in white card stock & sits over the cutout. I glued the letters back in place. I love the texture & the embossing resists of different greens this card shows.
I started off with a circle mask & then started stamping my leaves around the circle in various green inks. Once that was done I stamped my sentiment from the December’s Stamp of the Month – Happiness Never Grows Old in charcoal ink. I stamped, coloured & fussy cut out the roses & added them to my wreath of leaves. I backed the decorated card front with some Jingle Joy Paper Packet to finish it off.
