FINDING THE BEAUTY IN THE SMUDGES

Close To My Heart Are We There Yet? – Australasian Blog Hop

A Happy Hello and welcome aboard our Are We There Yet? Australasian Close to My Heart Blog Hop.

If you have arrived here from Doreen Watkins then you are in the right place. If you landed here by accident, no problem, please join in by following the link at the end of this post.

The Are We There Yet? paper collection is perfect for the person who loves to travel, be it local or international.

Now I have already scrapbooked all my travel photos & I don’t know anyone traveling to give a card. I did think about creating a travel journal to use the next time I travel & I may still do that with the scraps I have left over.

So what else can you create with a travel theme paper? Well anything if you focus on the camera icons in the sticker sheet or even in the Are We there Yet Scrapbooking stamp set. By doing this I created this Best Day Photo Op Scrapbook Layout. Now I had hope my photos (they are at the local beach so the blues of this page is perfect) would arrive in time for this blog post but looks like they are still traveling on their way to me! So for now it has placeholders.

I used a sketch from the Creative Scrapbooker Magazine’s Sketchy Group (it is a facebook group that gives you sketches each month to inspire you to scrapbook) as my jumping off point.

And focused on the paper designs that were not heavy in the travel theme. I used the Sapphire geo tag icon print & matted that with the Honey Butter arrow print to draw attention & be under my photos.

For the background I used some gesso on the white daisy cardstock to allow the water ink to spread & not soak through the cardstock. I used Peacock Feathers & Chipped Sapphire Distressed Oxide ink using the plastic bag technique & a spray bottle full of water. I heated this & added more layers of ink & some splatters with some watered down ink on my craft mat. I did not go completely to the edge, leaving some of the white daisy cardstock to show.. I framed the matts with some open circle dots from the Lovin’ Right Now stamp set & some stencilling in the same colours used in the background

I created some cluster embellishments with the Are We There Yet? Sticker Sheet & used some stamps from the Lovin’ Right Now stamp set around the photos along with some Black Acrylic arrows & stars.

I then trimmed this background once dry to 11.5″ x 11.5″ & matted it with the Glacier Map print. I did gut this so I could use the middle of the paper for another project. You only see a sliver of the pattern so you would not even realise it was a travel themed paper.

I used the Best Wishes Thin Cuts to create the title & used some Black Acrylic Brackets to draw attention to it. It was then that I went & added some black Dylusions Shimmer Spray – I did cover things up that I did not want the spray to be on – somehow I want to add spray after everything is done!

I would love for you to leave a comment before heading off to the next stop, Lynda Mowat – The Scrapbooking Photographer

I have added the sketched for those interested in what the sketched looked like & want to try it out.

Enjoy the hop & thanks so much for taking the time to check out these ideas with this month’s feature.

Til next time, see you soon & keep creating!
Maz
